About this piece

Our carver kept the shoebill’s broad yellow bill and heavy head close to life, then simplified the rest of this shoebill stork figurine just enough to keep the silhouette clean. Gray plumage covers most of the body, while the pale belly is broken up with loose gray feather lines for a lighter, more graphic rhythm. Thin upright legs and spread feet raise the shoebill figurine above a warm brown wooden base, making the oversized head feel even more pronounced and giving the piece a quietly commanding presence.
