Customized Figurine Wooden Gifts: Creative Anniversary Presents

Step 1: Drawing

As with our previous tutorials, the making of each piece begins with a drawing. Good ideas lead to good designs, and good designs require art skills to translate into a draft drawing on a wood block.

Step 2: Cutting in blocks.

Since this is a realistic style wooden figurine, the neck and waist of the figure will be thinner than the rest. For this reason, we made two cuts to divide each wooden figurine into three parts. Note, however, that the women in this design will be slimmer than the men, so they are cut in different places, with the male wooden figurine being cut from the junction of the pants and the top, and the female wooden figurine being cut from the junction of the chest and the waist. Please refer to both the front view and the side view for the depth of the saw.

Step 3: Cut Large

Shovel the excess of the wood block along the face of the cut block.

Step 4: Trim the block.

Trim the originally square wooden figure to make it more rounded.

Step 5: Carve the details.

Use a small carving knife to add more details to the figure, such as the collar on the dress, the zipper, and the ruffles on the skirt.

Step 6: Sandpaper

Since the piece is a realistic style anniversary gift, we can't keep too many carvings and angles, so use sandpaper to sand it in this step. Sand the originally angular face of the figure to make it more rounded to approximate the real-life effect.

Step 7: Color

The original wood color is also not suitable for this piece, so we hand-paint the whole thing and paint the facial expressions using high-quality water-based dyes. We used black as the main color of the figure to bring in the ceremonial feel of the anniversary. In addition, the black color creates a difference between dark and light colors, making the custom figurines not look dull - a beautiful and upscale pair of wooden gifts.
